Teaching Kinematics and Dynamics – My Daily Schedule

Below you’ll find my daily unit walkthrough. However, if you’d like the resources that go along with the plans, you’ll be interested in my membership.

Inside my Membership, you’ll get access to all the resources listed below and so much more, including

  • Over 1000 science lessons
  • 100+ video lesson walkthroughs
  • Additional day-by-day teaching outlines, activities, projects, quizzes, tests, and more all organized by subject and type

Go on, join us. You know you want to. Click here to learn more.

It’s important to note that I don’t simply do the lesson each day and that’s it. Once the lesson is complete, students will have time to work on HW questions and worksheets as well as their outstanding projects that I assign throughout the unit. This outline also doesn’t take into consideration Genius Hour days which are typically each Friday.

Day 1:

  • At the start of each lesson for the first couple of weeks, I have my students work on a problem that reviews projectile motion from last year. You can download the problem here. It’s broken into different parts.
  • Lesson 1 – Speed and Velocity in 1 and 2 Dimensions (Day 1)
    • Stop at graphing
  • I’ve created walkthrough videos for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the links to your students. You can access them via these links – https://youtu.be/YQKcZb0URb0 & https://youtu.be/5RRud1zXFSM

Day 2:

  • Start of Day Problem
  • Lesson 1 – Speed and Velocity in 1 and 2 Dimensions (Day 2)
  • I’ve created walkthrough videos for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the links to your students. You can access them via these links – https://youtu.be/YQKcZb0URb0 & https://youtu.be/5RRud1zXFSM

Day 3:

  • Lesson 2 – Acceleration in 1 and 2 Dimensions
    • Stop after graphs
  • I’ve created a walkthrough video for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the link to your students. You can access it via this link –https://youtu.be/qZDIi66zHSM

Day 4:

  • Finish Lesson 2 – Acceleration in 1 and 2 Dimensions
  • Acceleration in 1-dimension worksheet (20 minutes)
  • Lesson 3 – Acceleration due to Gravity
    • Stop before air resistance
  • HW: Acceleration in 1 dimension worksheet

Day 5:

  • There are two projects I give at the point in the unit. Each semester I only give one. Both take a lot of work and require at least 4 weeks to complete.
  1. Amusement Park Project – I typically give my students the first day to choose their partners and come up with the ride they want to build. I only allow rides to be used once so that each project is unique.
  2. Catapult Project – I typically give my students the first day to choose their partners and come up with the design they want to build.

If you’d like access to all of these resources plus everything else I have in My Store, please consider joining my Membership Program. Click here to learn more about it.

Day 6:

  • Lesson 5 – Frames of Reference

Day 7:

  • Lesson 5 – Frames of Reference – Complete
  • Work period for HW

Day 8:

  • Lesson 4 – Projectile Motion
  • I’ve created a walkthrough video for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the link to your students. You can access it via this link – https://youtu.be/rd7FudcdZPY

Day 9:

  • Give out Genius Hour project.
    • Genius Hour is my absolute favorite project. It lets your students research a topic that’s important to them. If you’d like to learn more about implementing Genius Hour in your classroom, click here.

Day 10:

Catch-up day. Students may use this time to get caught up on outstanding project work.

Day 10:

  • Lesson 7 – Newton’s Laws of Motion
  • I’ve created a walkthrough video for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the link to your students. You can access it via this link – https://youtu.be/rd7FudcdZPY

Day 11:

  • Lesson 8 – Exploring Frictional Forces
  • I’ve created a walkthrough video for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the link to your students. You can access it via this link – https://youtu.be/YL1hvv95hOk

Day 12:

  • Friction Lab Station Activity

Day 13:

  • Lesson 9 – Ramps, Pulleys, and Forces
  • I’ve created a walkthrough video for some common questions. Please feel free to provide the link to your students. You can access it via this link – https://youtu.be/nHufeM3TWzw

Day 14:

  • Ramps, Pulleys and Forces Worksheet

Day 15:

  • Lesson 10 – Uniform Circular Motion

Day 16:

  • Lesson 11 – Universal Gravitation

Day 17:

  • Work on Formula Sheet
  • Test Review

Day 18:

  • Note: I typically test my students on two different days. The first day is dedicated to Kinematics and the second to Dynamics.
