Do Vaccines Cause Autism?

VaccinesDo you know anyone who has had the measles? What about mumps? Do you know of anyone who has ever known anyone who has had either?  No?  What about polio? You can thank vaccines. But I heard someone say doesn’t it cause autism? The only paper to ever link autism with vaccinations was proven to be fraudulent along with its author Dr. Wakefield who had his medical license striped as a result. Funny enough but he was on the payroll of a company who had filed a lawsuit against the producer of a particular vaccine.
The problem is once this information is out there, people get scarred.  After its publication, vaccines in Britian declined 80%!! Want more information? Click the image on the left for some some quick facts then have a read of this article by the Globe and Mail – http://goo.gl/FzpPoc

How can this be used in the classroom?  Well used it the other day as a point of discussion with my secondary general science class.  Most if not all of your students will know a little about what vaccines are but here is your chance to grab their attention with some amazing facts then sneak some information in there as well.  It’s also a great time to throw in a newspaper article for them to read and summarize as do on a regular basis – more information and articles can be found here.
