Cell Membrane and Transport – This 40 slide Introductory Biology PowerPoint Lesson package discusses both the Cell Membrane (structure and function) as well as the different types of transport across the membrane. It is geared towards students who are unfamiliar with both. It outlines the structures involved in maintaining a selective internal environment as well as Passive vs. Active Transport. Furthermore, it mentions osmosis and provides multiple guided opportunities for the students to create Thinking Maps. The PowerPoint contains many diagrams, explanations and videos. It includes the lesson (student and teacher versions of the Power Point), 6 embedded videos, three a student activities and a student lesson handout as a word document which follows the PowerPoint. This lesson is designed for an entry/introductory level biology course.

The student version of the PowerPoint contains multiple blanks that need to be filled in throughout the lesson. These blanks are conveniently underlined and bolded on the teacher copy. I have found this to be the most effective means of keeping my students engaged and active without having them write everything out. This also leaves more time for discussion and activities.
